RPGs and Icons

I’m signed up on Roll20.net and I just joined a couple of one-off groups. Tomorrow I’ll create some characters according to their guidelines to be ready if something interesting comes up. I might make a level 1 character or two, if I’m not burned out on it.

One of the things that amuses me are old ads. I have a bunch of them saved, and I decided to make icons out of some of them. I got the original files from James Lileks’ tumblr; he also has a great website if you, like me, find commentary on old media amusing.

Anyway, here are some of the icons I’ve come up with. You’re welcome to use any of these, as long as you give me credit.

Well aren't you special     coffee crusader   knight in shining business suit  dixie cup boy with head parasite dixie cup girl    dixie cup older boy

Old ads used some very odd imagery. You’d think those kids had just been given a Golden Ticket or something, but no, it was just a Dixie Cup. The lady on the moped and the knight in shining business suit were campaigning for “more coffee in their coffee”, whatever that means. And the snarky-looking woman was in an ad for Budweiser, looking like she was contemplating hitting her husband with a heavy objet d’art, although I think she was supposed to be admiring a wedding gift.

More to come; I didn’t want to make a huge graphic post, so I’ll probably do them in small batches. I have plenty of material, though, and some of it is straight-up nightmare fuel.

Comments are welcome, too.
